Students' Personality Types, Intended Majors, and College Expectations: Further Evidence concerning Psychological and Sociological Interpretations of Holland's Theory

Springer's article explains the correlation between a students personality and environment and how they affect what the students major will be. The article explains six personality types and corresponding environments. The article also shows a framework consisting of three components persons, their environments, and the interaction between people and their environments. The six personality types with corresponding environments are as follows Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. The Environments parallel the personality types and reinforce and reward the characteristics. Holland believes using his formula he can predict what a students major will be just by the students personality type and the environment in which the student lives. I believe that this method could prove to be very accurate and use full being that the personality of an individual definitely plays a huge roll in their deciding a profession for the future. Most students will probably choose a major that falls into something their intrested in thus proving their personality plays a roll. Also the enviroment definetly has an effect on ones personality and mood showing that personality and the enviroment are usefull in showing researchers how things may pan out for a student. This topic is inportant in Enviromental studies because it shows hoe the enviroment plays a role in peoples personalities and lives.
